Christian Shaw's Signature Discovered!
Paisley Local History Society would like to thank Sir Robert Clerk of Penicuik for kindly giving us permission to reproduce Christian Shaw's signature.
The Society are delighted to share an example of Christian Shaw's signature with the community. This is very exciting, as it offers us all a direct, physical connection to this person who was at the centre of the Renfrewshire Witch Hunt of 1697.
The Society would like to thank Sir Robert Clerk of Penicuik for generously granting permission to publish this important historical artefact.
Christian was around 42 years of age when she signed this document, and her childhood experiences in Renfrewshire would have been a distant memory. By now, her thread business was thriving, and she was making important connections in Scotland's capital.
