Beyond 1697
Christian Shaw was a central figure in the story of the Renfrewshire witch hunt, and at times history has not been kind to her. Some people blame her for the execution of the witches in Paisley in 1697. Some others argue that she was genuine, and that the adults of the time were the main driving force behind the events. We will probably never know for sure, but this only makes the story more intriguing. Despite her turbulent childhood, she would go on to achieve greatness in her later life, and help to lay the foundations for the manufacturing prosperity of Paisley and wider Renfrewshire.
